Respite Care

A break from caregiving — without giving up your role

Respite is professional coverage so you can rest, recover, or just take a breath. We handle the shift; you stay the caregiver.

You've been the caregiver for months or years. You love them. You're also exhausted, and the guilt of asking for help makes it worse. A break isn't a failure — it's how you keep showing up.

Family caregivers who need temporary relief — whether funded through a Medicaid waiver, the National Family Caregiver Support Program (caring for someone age 60+), Tennessee's Family-Directed Respite Voucher Program, or private pay. No program enrollment is required for private pay respite.

How to start

  1. Tell us about the person you care for and the kind of break you need.

  2. We identify the funding path — waiver, NFCSP, state voucher, or private pay.

  3. Schedule the first respite visit as soon as you're ready.

Common questions about Respite Care

How much respite care can I actually get?

Under a Medicaid waiver, respite hours are set in the member's care plan — often 300+ annual hours. Under the National Family Caregiver Support Program (caring for someone 60+), your local Area Agency on Aging sets the amount. Private pay has no cap.

Do I have to commit to a fixed weekly schedule?

No. Many families use respite flexibly — a standing weekly block, occasional weekends away, or coverage during medical appointments or travel. We build the schedule around your life.

What if my loved one has dementia or complex needs?

Our caregivers are trained for dementia care, safe mechanical transfers (Hoyer lifts), and medication reminders. For the first visit we typically have you stay briefly to introduce the caregiver and walk through routines.

Will it be the same respite caregiver each time?

For recurring respite schedules we aim to assign a consistent caregiver or small team so your loved one isn't meeting a stranger every visit.

Can I get respite if I'm not on a Medicaid waiver?

Yes. The National Family Caregiver Support Program through local AAADs funds respite for caregivers of adults 60+, Tennessee has a Family-Directed Respite Voucher Program, and private pay is always available.
